The Weekly Wind Down #41
Catch up with friends, a new beauty recommendation, and the summer promise I've made to myself.
Hiya Huns,
How have we all been this week? As per, let’s talk about the weather first. How glorious has the sunshine been? It honestly makes the world of difference to my mood. Yes, it’s been very toasty the past couple of days, and it looks like it’s going to be increasing. I saw Wednesday was meant to be 36 degrees Celsius in London - no ma’am. That’s the kind of heat where I should be by a pool with an ice-cold frozen marg in my hand. How are we all staying cool?
Amongst all of the fun I’ve been having with friends, it’s been pretty heavy things going on in my personal life, so this week has been a slower time caring for myself and family. But all’s ok, pals; let’s dive into what I’ve been up to.
Sincerely, This Week:
On Monday I met up with a friend who instantly makes me feel better as we shared updates, championed one another, and gossiped over delicious food and a cheeky glass of rosé. What a way to start the week?
The rest of the week was spent working, writing, and planning some bits. I’ve been trying to make the most of the balcony and eat my breakfast, lunch and dinners out there to just take in the views and feel the sun on my skin- that’s before I get too hot and start sweating profusely, haha.
Friday evening I had a gorgeous night in on my own. I cooked a stunning dinner for myself, lit a candle, did a face mask, put on some chilled country music, had the balcony doors open, and read more of my Liza book. It was so nice to have that time with myself to reset and recharge, especially with things going on.
On Saturday we were reunited with Gabriel’s friend from uni who came over from New York. We went to Dishoom for breakfast, which was as yummy as always. Then we went and enjoyed the sunshine in St. James’s Park, before popping to a pub for some drinks. We then came home and had a picky tea. You can’t beat a picky tea in the summer. What’s on your table when you have one?
On Sunday I visited my beautiful grandparents before going over to my sisters for a BBQ to celebrate Father’s Day with the family and play with my niece and nephew. I adore spending time with them; they instantly make me feel better and remind me that everything is going to be ok.
The ultimate Las Vegas day vlog:
In this episode of our grand Las Vegas and LA trip, come with Gabriel and me as we explore the strip of Vegas, hop and explore 10 hotels, and pay a visit to The Sphere to watch The Wizard of Oz.
We’d greatly appreciate it if you could subscribe also.
What You’ve Missed:
The Moodboard:
Watching: Off Campus on Amazon Prime - I have been hearing and seeing so much about this show that I finally gave in and binged it. It’s about a young girl at college who meets an ice hockey player, and we see how their friendship grows from fake to real, dealing with a secret in her past and a few other twists thrown in. It’s a classic, feel-good rom com that’s definitely worth a watch.
Listening to: Baby Now That I’ve Found You by Ella Bright - You might know the original version of this song, but for Off Campus, the lead actress and singer sings a new take of it. It’s slowed down, made more romantic, and is such a lovely, relaxing listen.
Eating: Double Bacon Naan from Dishoom - Dishoom is a chain of restaurants which celebrate the flavours of Bombay. Now, if you’re in the journalism/ PR industry in London, then you’ve probably been and tried their popular Bacon Naans; they are honestly incredible, yet so simple. It’s just streaky bacon in a naan bread with cream cheese and a tomato chilli jam on the side - it’s beautiful. You can even get yourself an at-home kit from them to make them at home.
The Edit:
Throughout my career in the fashion and beauty industry, I have searched far and wide to find the best at-home teeth whitener, and pals, I’ve found it.
The Colgate Max White Purple Teeth Whitening Serum is the one. It’s a purple serum/ toothpaste that you use after you’ve brushed your teeth as a second round to intensify the whiteness of your teeth. The results get better over time and with repetitive use.
Whether you’ve got stained teeth from coffee, wine, food, smoking, whatever, this bad boy is honestly one of the best, if not the best, teeth whiteners that I’ve discovered, and I honestly can’t do without it now. It’s one of those products I buy on repeat.
Buy the Colgate Max White Purple Teeth Whitening Serum here (and it’s currently half price).
Sincerely, Me:
I’ve got a holiday coming up with some friends in two weeks, which I am BEYOND excited about. I haven’t been on a friends’ holiday in so many years.
But as we’ve been planning the trip, a few of us have been discussing insecurities. You know the usual ones, that we’ve realised a lot of people share, where we don’t like parts of our bodies, and the comparison that you automatically make even when you don’t realise you’re doing it.
As I’ve written about before in my newsletter titled “At the age of 31, I’m trying to finally accept my body for what it is”, I am going to try my absolute hardest to do away with and not give a damn.
I’ve realised a lot lately that I spend SO much time concerning myself with other people’s opinions, and, as a matter of fact, it’s none of my business what others think of me.
If people want to judge you on the way your body looks, that’s coming from an insecurity of theirs. It also shows how shallow they are as a human being.
Besides this, we deprive ourselves from exterting this energy into living in the moment and having fun.
Serious, yet slightly morbid statement, but when you die, people won’t be standing beside your grave discussing your body.
They won’t be there saying “Oh, he has an amazing body,” “he spent so much time working out and not ever eating the wrong thing,” etc. They’ll be remembering that time you danced on the beach, the time you got up on stage and belted out a tune at karaoke; they’ll discuss how you made them feel.
So, as we venture into a new (and hot) week, we owe it to ourselves to not only be kinder to our bodies, but to put it to the back of our minds and just live and bloody enjoy ourselves.
Quote for the week: "Don't waste so much time thinking about how much you weigh. There is no more mind-numbing, boring, idiotic, self-destructive diversion from the fun of living." - Meryl Streep
Sincerely, Scott xx
